Mild-mannered music teacher by day, Nils Fredland becomes the "Mick Jagger of contra dance callers" on nights and weekends. He currently resides in Keene, NH with his wife Amy and their cat Shade, where he spends late nights at the kitchen table thinking about contra dance choreography. Really. He loves his work, and you'll feel that love at any dance party where Nils is host.
Nils started calling dances in 2001 and has criss-crossed the country many times since then, calling for dancers in 31 states (as well as Canada, England, Ireland, and Germany). Nils is known for his technical skill, disarming friendliness, comfortable stage presence, deep voice, and trombone playing. He brings this unique collection of traits and talents to each of his calling engagements.
Nils believes in the power of dance to create community, connection, joy, and a sense of belonging. He's pleased to be able to play an active role in nurturing these good and essential things, and you'll feel it in every dance he calls.
